Mill Creek Parish is a charter participant at The Lord’s Table, located at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in
Gaithersburg. We cook and serve a meal to guests from the community who desire a hot meal. We are one of 30 plus churches and organizations who are each assigned a day Monday through
Saturday, serving meals September through June. Mill Creek’s day is the 2nd Monday of each month. We work from 1 pm – 5:00 pm.
Workers arrive around 1pm and may work through cleanup at 4:45 pm. Some workers who have children in school may choose to leave after food preparation so they can be home when the kids arrive
home from school. Others choose to arrive around 3:15 pm to set up for dishing up the food, then cleaning up. Some workers work the whole afternoon. We also have adults and
youth who volunteer to take the dished soup and main course to the guests in the main dining
room. Young people must be 12 years old to work with the team; youth can learn more from Justin McKinney
or Kevin Burroughs. Service learning hours are given to youth workers. We have a good number of workers, but some are travelers or snowbirds, so we can always use more “on call” workers.
More men regulars are important to help in the kitchen with cooking and especially moving heavy pans, etc. Linda Culbertson schedules workers for each month.
Kitchen workers must have a TB test (past or present), wear a head covering, and be willing to learn rules for safe food handling and handwashing techniques. To participate call the church
office for more information.
