Rev. Timothy Warner- Senior Pastor
Rev. Timothy B. Warner was called to the gospel ministry while serving as a Deacon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Rockville, MD in 1996. He was licensed to preach in 1998 and ordained to pastoral ministry after he completed his Master of Divinity degree at Wesley Theological Seminary in 2003. Reverend Warner was trained as a bacterial geneticist, and enjoyed a productive career in pharmaceutical research and development, where he held various scientific and executive leadership positions for over 18 years before committing to full-time ministry.
He served for seven years as the Associate Council Director for Community and Economic Development in the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, engendering ministries of mission-evangelism in local churches throughout the region. Notable among them are: Saving Stations, the Jesus Jam Basketball Camp, and Shalom Zones. He also managed the Conference’s relationship with the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area. He is a contributing author of two books, The Africana Worship Book, an afro-centric worship book, and Disciplines:2009, a book of daily devotions, and has recently been awarded Wesley Theological Seminary’s Urban Ministry Distinguished Alumnus Award.
He served as the Sr. Pastor of St. Mark’s UMC in Boyds, MD, which he led, with two other congregations, into the creation of a new congregation, Community of Faith United Methodist Church of Clarksburg, MD. Rev. Warner has also served on multiple non-profit and county boards, commissions and committees. He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the National Center for Children and Families and the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Housing Partnership.
After serving in ministry on the staff of the Montgomery County Executive in his Office of Community Partnerships as the Community Liaison for the African American and Faith Communities, and then as the Chief Engagement and Partnership Officer for Montgomery County Public Schools, Rev. Warner is proud to serve as Senior Pastor of both the Emory Grove United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg, MD and the Mill Creek Parish United Methodist Church in Derwood, MD.
Minister of Christian Education - Martha Maxham
Martha is an ordained deacon in the Baltimore-Washington Conference and began working on the staff at MCPUMC in 1998, as the Minister of Christian Education. Martha was born and raised in Ohio and went to undergrad at Westminster College in Pennsylvania. She received her master’s degree from Scarritt College in Nashville, Tn.
Martha met her husband, Art, when she moved to the DC area for her first job at a church in Northern, Va. She and Art have three children, Andrew, Jill and Scott. Andrew and Jill are married and Scott is in college. Recently they welcomed their first grandchild into the family as their daughter and son-in-law had a baby boy. In her spare time Martha enjoys working out at the gym and especially enjoys spin classes! (even if they don’t get you anywhere!)
Youth Director – Kevin Burroughs
Kevin has served as Youth Director here at Mill Creek Parish UMC since Summer of 2007. He has been serving in Youth Ministry in some capacity since 2002. Kevin has a wonderful wife who also works with students as a teacher in the Montgomery County School System. He has 2 great children, a son & daughter, who keep him on his toes for sure. His family also has 2 dogs that always look out for all of them.
When he is not working with students, Kevin loves to get outside and find something to do, whether it is hiking, camping, mountain biking, playing sports, or just chasing the kids around the yard and he is not one to pass up a good baseball game. He roots for the Orioles and Nationals, but will usually watch anyone but the Yankees play. God continues to bless him and his family.
Organist- Ann Bartlow
Ann is the organist and pianist at Mill Creek Parish. She serves as an At-Large Member of the Potomac Chapter, American Guild of Organists (AGO). She studies organ with Kenneth Lowenberg. Ann accompanies the adult and youth choirs for Mill Creek Parish. Ann has a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Music Therapy from State University of New York College at Fredonia in Fredonia, New York. She also has a Master of Education in Special Education from Towson University. She is a Special Education teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools.
Youth Handbell Director- Carole Mattis
Carole Mattis is originally from Calvert County, MD. She moved to the Gaithersburg area in the early 70's. She and her family became active members at MCP in 1980. She began ringing bells in 1983 and moved on to organizing and directing a senior high bell group in 1999, followed by a middle high bell group in 2010. She became the director of the adult bells in 2008. Carole enjoys spending time with her 5 grandchildren, teaching piano, and, of course, hand bells.
